Among the most important components of a dental chair is the ceramic dental basin, also called spittoon: it is the container placed next to the chair so that the patient can rinse. The spittoon is removable, as are the fountains, so that everything can be disinfected appropriately.
It can also be rotated to allow patients to spit directly into it.
The water supply nozzle is 2cm higher than the surface of the spittoon cylinder to avoid cross-infection caused by water splashing to the water supply nozzle during sputum washing.
Spittoon and dental chair: how to disinfect it
The dental chair is also a major source of cross-infection between patients and dentists.
For these reasons it is necessary to obtain correct disinfection of the chair before the day, between patients and at the end of the day. The correct procedure to follow is:
-Remove the instruments for sterilization and disinfection.
-Clean the padding of the dental chair with a cloth soaked in disinfectant and dry it, removing all the product.
-Rinse used instruments for 2 minutes.
-Clean the drain filter of the dental tray carefully.
-Clean the suction pipes by inserting the pipes into the adapters and starting the process in the water group with high efficiency disinfectant products.
